Mitosis

• Mitosis is used to grow or replace cells that have been damaged
• Results in two new identical daughter cells
• 1. The cell grows and increases the ammount of subcellular structures such as the mitochondira and ribosomes
• 2. DNA is duplicated so theres one copy for each cell
• 3. The chromosomes line up at the centre of the cell and spindle fibres pull them apart
• 4. Membranes form around each set of chromosomes and become the nuclei of the new cells - the nucleus has divides
• 5. The cytoplasm and cell membrane divide
• The DNA is identical to the parent cell
