Aseptic Technique

• 1. Disenfect the desk using antisepctic and light the bunsen burner
• 2. Leave the agar plate partially open neto the bunsen burner
• 3. Put the innoculationg loop through the flame and the neck of the bacterial bottle through the flame
• 4. Use the innoculating loop to spread bacteria across the agar plate
• 5. Put the tweezers through the flame and use them to put an antibiotic disc in each corner
• 6. Pass the glass spreader through the flame and use it to spread ethanol over the agar plate
• 7. Seal it and leave at room temperature for 24-48 hours on a windowsill
• 8. Put all equipment used in an antiseptic
• Risk factors:

  • Dont open agar plate fully as harmful bacteria may grow
  • Bunsen burner - tie all hair back & tuck in loose clothing
  • Bacteria is harmful - Disenfect workspace and all equipment
• Zone of inhibition - The area where no bacteria is grown, it has been killed
