    into Heaven, Andrew carried the gospel to the lands that are now Russia and the Ukraine. Then, in his
    old age, he traveled to Greece, where he was martyred in the town of Patras.

  • buried in the Basilica of Benevento, Italy, or Basilica of St. Bartholomew on the Island,
    Rome, Italy.
    St. Bartholomew:
  • buried in Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia,
    Spain.
    St. James the Great:
  • buried in the Cathedral of St. James in Jerusalem. He was executed by sword
    likely beheaded by king Herod. He was revered as the first person who died for Jesus.
    St. James, son of Alphaeus:
  • The opening of his tomb (in the Basilica of St. John, Ephesus) during Constantine the
    Great's reign yielded no bones, giving rise to the belief that his body was assumed into heaven. Natural

  • buried in the St. Matthias' Abbey in Trier, Germany.

    St. Matthias:
  • relics located in the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in Rome; the skull located in the
    Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran, alongside the skull of St. Peter. St. Paul was beheaded the same day
    St. Peter was crucified. Constantine didn’t forget St. Paul—he built a basilica over the apostle’s grave on
    the Via Ostia.
    St. Paul:
  • buried in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, Rome, Italy; the skull located in the Archbasilica of
    Saint John Lateran, alongside the skull of St. Paul. About the year 64, St. Peter was crucified head
    downward in the Circus, or Arena, of Nero on the Vatican Hill. Christians recovered his body and buried
    it in a nearby cemetery. About the year 326 the Emperor Constantine leveled what remained of the
    arena, and the hill, and erected a large basilica with the high altar positioned above St. Peter’s grave.

  • buried in the Church of the Holy Apostles in Rome or possibly Hierapolis, modern Turkey.

    St. Philip:
  • buried in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome under the St. Joseph altar with St. Jude.
    St. Simon the Zealot:
  • buried in the San Thome Basilica in Chennai, India.
    St. Thomas:
  • the four-week season of preparation for the birth of Christ, and for the Second Coming. Often
    an Advent wreathe is used as a focus for prayer during Advent.

    Jesus' humble birth in a stable surrounded by animals.
