Osmosis

Cards (7)

    1. Cut a potato into identical cylinders - identical mass
  • 2. After patting each potato dry, add them into a beaker containing different concentration solutions
  • 3. Leave the potato for 24 hours
  • 5. Remove the potato from each cylinder and dry them, remeasure their masses. An increase = lower concentration than the solution, A decrease = higher concentration than the solution
  • 5. Repeat three times for each concentration and find a mean
  • To improve accuracy:
    • Repeat and find a mean
    • Use a vermier capillar instead of a ruler to measure length
    • Use a balance with a higher accuracy
    • Use different concentrations of solution
  • Risk assesment:
    • Cutting the potato - sharp knife - carry facing the ground and cut away from the body
    • Avoid coming into contact with the solutions - wash hands
