• bile stored in gall bladder before released to small intestine
• bile = alkaline - neutralises stomach acid

  enzymes in small intestine work best in alkaline
• bile emulsifies fats - gives larger surface area of fat for lipase to work on -> makes digestion faster
• salivary glands: produce amylase in saliva
• stomach: pummels food with muscular walls

  produces protease= pepsin

  produces hydrochloric acid - kills bacteria, gives right pH for protease to work
• pancreas: produces protease, amylase, lipase; goes to small intestine
• large intestine: excess water is absorbed from food
• small intestine: produces amylase, protease, lipase to complete digestion

  digested food is absorbed to the blood
