Cards (24)

  • Life is everywhere we look, it ignites all of our actions, it is both fleeting and enduring, boundless and transient
  • The human species seems insignificant beside the power of nature and the breadth of the life by which we are surrounded and yet we have dominion over it all
  • When does life begin?
When a fetus becomes somewhat identifiable and systems are developing, when they're born, when they actually breathe
  • We're not gonna know when life actually begins, not even in a thousand years, not even in a million years
  • The unborn take in nutrients and grow via cellular reproduction
  • The unborn are the offspring of human parents and have human DNA
  • The unborn are human organisms like you or me, whereas sperm, egg and body cells are merely human tissue and do not have any rights
  • Adult, teenager, child, infant, fetus, embryo, zygote are all stages of development in the life of a human organism
  • We should treat all human organisms or what we usually call human beings equally regardless of what level of development they're currently at
  • Stamen
The male reproductive part of the flower, consisting of the anther and the filament
  • Anther
Produces pollen grains, each containing a tube cell with a tube nucleus and two male gametes
  • Carpel
The female reproductive part of the flower, with the stigma at the top, supported by the style, and the ovary at the base
  • Ovule
    Contains a female gamete
  • Sexual reproduction in flowering plants

    1. Pollen grains land on the stigma
    2. Pollen tubes extend down to the ovary
    3. Ovules are fertilized
    4. Seeds formed
  • Flowering plants or angiosperms reproduce sexually, and the flower is the reproductive organ
  • Flowers contain male reproductive organs (anthers) and female reproductive organs (carpels)
  • Pollen contains the male gametes and is found on the anthers
  • Pollen moves from the anthers to the female stigma
  • Pollen tubes extend down to the ovary where the ovules are fertilized and seeds formed
  • Seeds mature either inside fruit or in the ovary and are dispersed in a number of ways
  • Many flowers contain both male and female organs and gametes, while some have only one type of reproductive organ
  • Plants containing both male and female organs are able to self-pollinate, although cross-pollination ensures genetic diversity
  • Pollen is unable to move on its own, it is transferred from anthers to stigmas by various means including birds, insects, wind and water
  • Sexual reproduction in flowering plants is a highly evolved process, they are very successful organisms with an estimated 400,000 species in existence, and their reproductive process is critical to the survival of habitats worldwide
