Siege of Aornus Rock

• Alexander wanted to capture the Aornus rock as Arrian claims that even Heracles couldn't capture it - used to glorify Alexander
• Alexander left Craterus to the city of Embolima to set up camp below the rock. Alexander takes 200 companion cavalry and phalanx with him to advance towards the rock
• Alexander encountered some Indians who surrendered to him. They told him the best place where he was able to take the rock. Alexander sends Ptolemy to the area and set up camp.
• Ptolemy lit a beacon to signal when the mountain had been captured and Alexander began going towards the mountain. However he was attacked by Indian tribes (acknowledged by Arrian). The Indians turned towards Ptolemy but were driven back and forced to retreat
• Alexander sends a letter to Ptolemy, ordering a double attack and it was a success but they needed to find a way to the opposite hill where the rock was
• Alexander orders 100 stakes to be cut to make a bridge which was built in 3 days. Alexander uses slingers and missiles to protect the construction of the bridge. He was getting closer and the Indians feared and told him they would surrender
• The Indians delayed the promise and planned to sneak back home during the night but Alexander found out about it and killed them, some hurling themselves off the mountain
