  • William Wordsworth - eng poet whose parents died + his relatives treated him badly - suicidal, loved the lake district + nature was an escape for him. - autobiographical poem- first person narration + past tense. this was meant to be a small part of his autobiography but he died before he could finish it
• S -speaker a symbol of the whole of humanity used to represent their false sense of superiority of nature. assumed to be a fictionalized version of WW situation revealing a lot about his individual experience from mem - journey metaphorically relates to the spiritual journey he takes + realizes the true extent of nature
