Biological approach

Cards (9)

  • What are genes?

A unique combination of genetic instructions
  • What is heritability?

A statistical measurement of how genes influence different people, a higher heritability the more traits that are inhibited
  • What does Darwin argue about genes?
That behavior can be explained by seeing the combination of genes and environments on the individual
  • What did twin studies show about the importance of genes?
Monozygotic twins have a concordance rate of 0.4 whilst dizygotic twins have one of 0.14 for schizophrenia
  • What is a genotype?

A particular set of genes that an individual possess
  • What is a phenotype?

Visual characteristics of an individual that is determined by both genes and environment
  • What are excitatory neurotransmitters?

They trigger nerve impulses in the receiving neuron and stimulates the brain into action
  • What are inhibitory neurotransmitters?

Nerve impulses that calm down the brain and balance moods
  • What is brain physiology?
A study of the interactions between different regions of the brain that help to control different functions
