Contain covalent bonds
Atoms within the molecules are held together by very strong covalent bonds
Forces of attraction between these molecules are very weak intermolecular forces
To melt or boil, only need to break the weak intermolecular forces and not the covalent bonds
Melting and boiling points are very low because it's easy to break the intermolecular forces
Most are gases or liquids at room temperature
As molecules get bigger, the intermolecular forces get stronger, more energy needed to break the stronger forces, so the melting and boiling points rise
Don't conduct electricity because they aren't charged
