    • pathogens are microorganisms that cause infectious disease. May be a virus, bacteria, protist, fungi
    • disease caused by viruses, bacteria, protists or fungi are spread by direct contact, water or air
    • disease can be prevented by vaccination, avoiding contact with infected animals, and keeping good hygiene
    • bacteria and viruses reproduce rapidly inside the body
    • bacteria produce toxins that damage tissues
    • viruses live and reproduce inside cells, making them hard to treat
    • Measels- viral disease showing symptoms of fever and a rash. Spread by inhaling droplets from coughs and sneezes
    • HIV- viral disease that unless treated attacks the body's immune system
    • malaria-caused by a protists, causes fever and can be fatal
    • tobacco mosaic- virus that effects many plants and leaves the plant with discolouration. Affects the growth of plants
    • salmonella- bacteria that causes food poisoning, spread by eating contaminated food. causes vomiting, cramps ect
    • gonorrhoea- bacteria. symptoms include green discharge from vagina or penis. Spread by sexual contact
    • rose black sport- fungal disease that causes black spots on leaves and stems. Spread by water, wind or contaminated tools.
