White blood cells engulf foreign cells and digest them, this is known as phagocytosis
Every invading pathogen has unique molecules, called antigens, on its surface
When the wbc comes accross a foreign antigen, they produce antibodies to lock onto invading cells so they can be found and destroyed by other white blood cells
The antibodies produced are specific to the type of antigen
Antibodies are then produced rapidly and carried around the body to find all simmilar bacteria or viruses
The wbc's can rapidly produce antibodies to kill a pathoge, they become naturally immune to that pathogen
Wbc's counteract toxins produced by invading bacteria by producing antitoxins
