Vaccination

• Injecting a small ammount of dead or inactive pathogens. These carry antigens which cause the body to produce antibodies and attack them, these are stored as memory cells. If live pathogens appear, the wbc's can rapidly mass-produce antibodies to kill the pathogen
• Advantages of vaccination

  • Control lots of communicable diseases
  • Epidemics can be prevented by a large percentage of the population being vaccinated as there will be fewer people to pass the disease on but it can be spread quickly through unvaccinated people.
• Disadvantages of Vaccination

  • They dont always work and sometimes dont give immunity
  • You can get a bad reaction to the vaccine, but this is very rare
