  • Secondary storage is not directly accessible by the CPU, it is non-volatile and may be internal or external to the computer. It is commonly used for storing programs and data, transporting data, backups and additional storage
  • Optical disks are things like CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray disks. CDs can hold around 700mb of data, DVDs can hold around 4.7GB and Blu-rays can hold around 25GB. Optical disks come in three forms:
    • read-only (e.g. CD-ROM)
    • write-once (e.g. CD-R)
    • rewritable (e.g. CD-RW)
