Deforestation and the concept of 'threshold'
Deforestation reduces the forest’s ability to recover from droughts,
fires, landslides, and in the long-term leads to a drier climate (a
phenomenon named ‘dieback’). Since 20% of the Amazon has already
been deforested over the past 50 years, and some scientists believe
the tipping point for dieback is 20-25%, reduction of deforestation
and reforestation is urgently needed.
