  • there are two types of bacterial diseases: salmonella and ghonorrheoa
  • salmonella is a type of bacteria that causes food poisoning
  • people infected with salmonella can suffer from fever, stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrheoa
  • the salmonella symptoms are caused by the toxins that the bacteria produce
  • you can get salmonella by eating food that has been contaminated with salmonella bacteria
  • you can get salmonella by eating food that has been contaminated by being prepared in unhygenic conditions
  • you can also get salmonella from eating raw or undercooked meat, eggs or poultry
  • to prevent salmonella:
    • always wash hands after touching raw meats or eggs and after using the toilet
    • thoroughly cook meat
    • make sure the food prep areas are clean
    • avoid cross-contamination
    • do not wash meat as droplets could splash everywhere
  • gonorrheoa is a sexually transmitted disease (STD)
  • STDs are passed on by sexual contact
  • gonorrheoa is caused by bacteria
  • symptoms of gonorrheoa:
    • a person with gonorrheoa will get pain when they urinate
    • a thick yellow or green discharge from the vagina or penis
  • gonorrheoa was originally treated with an antibiotic called penicillin - however strains of the bacteria have become resistant to it
  • to prevent the spread of gonorrheoa, people can be treated with antibiotics and use contraception
