What are mixtures?
Mixtures consist of two or more elements or compounds which are not chemically combined
The components of a mixture retain their own properties
E.g. in a mixture of iron and sulfur. The iron is still magnetic and the sulfur is still yellow
Mixtures can be separated by physical separation techniques
What can physical separation techniques be used to separate?
Physical separation techniques can only be used to separate mixtures
They cannot be used to separate the elements in a compound
In physical separation techniques, are new substances/products made?
Physical separation techniques do not involve chemical reactions
So this means that no new substances are made
