  • Surestart centres
    Allows struggling W/C parents aquire the skills needed to ensure appropriate socialisation of their children and to overcome stereotypes of effects of poverty on children
  • Family planning act
    Birth control advice is available regardless of marital status
  • Sex discrimination act

    It is unlawful for a company to discriminate against a woman on the grounds of her gender and possibility of marriage and children
  • Changes to pension age
    The age in which people can retire is currently 66 but is likely to increase to mid 70s
  • Divorce reform act (1988)

    Divorce is easier and cheaper. Irretrievable breakdown is now a reason for divorce
  • Creation of child support agency

    Absent parents are to be required to pay a percentage of their wage towards their childrens' primary parent in order to financially support them
  • Changes to maternity/paternity
    Maternity leave can be taken for as long as year (possibly more)
    Paternity leave is still only 2 weeks
  • Equal pay act

    Pay between men and women are to be equal. However, there is still a gap that is commonly based on gender
  • 30 hour childcare

    Parents who earn under a certain threshold i.e. £100,000, are eligible for 30 hours per week of childcare, free from the government
