  • Hitlers actions that caused war timeline
    1933 -Hitler started to rearm Germany 1936-Hitler remilitarised the Rhineland 1938-Hitler united with Austria 1938-Hitler demanded to take over the sudetenland part of Czechoslovakia and Britain and other countries allowed them to take it in the Munich agreement. 1939-Hitler takes the rest of Czechoslovakia breaking the Munich agreement 1939-Hitler signs the Nazi soviet pact to both take over Poland 1939-Hitler invades Poland Britain and France declare war on Germany 1939-Hitler broke the nazi soviet pact USSR becomes ally with britain
  • Treaty of Versailles (1919)-Germany was blamed for starting ww1 so they had to pay £6,600 million in compensation which made germans angry as they felt like they were being treated unfairly. This led to Hitler becoming chancellor and he wanted revenge against france and britain who signed the treaty.
  • Nazi Soviet Pact (1939) -Hitler and Stalin agreed not to attack eachother. They also divided up eastern europe between themselves. This meant that Britain and France couldn't rely on Russia to be their allies anymore. When Hitler attacked poland russia joined in and helped win the battle. Afterwards stalin betrayed hitler by attacking him again. This shows how unreliable alliances can be during times of war.
  • Munich Agreement(1938) -Hitler demanded to take over Sudetenland part of czechoslovakia. Chamberlain agreed to this but said if he took any more land then they would go to war. However, when Hitler did take over the whole country chamberlain still refused to go to war. The Munich agreement showed how weak Britain was and gave Hitler confidence to continue expanding his empire.

Appeasement failed because it didn't stop hitler from wanting more land and power. He continued to expand his empire until there was no one left to appease him.
