  • The lymphatic system is an open ended network of vessels that connect to lymph nodes and to the main organs of the lymphatic system.
  • The main roles of the lymphatic system are: -
    1. Managing the fluid levels in the body by returning tissue fluid to the bloodstream.
    2. Carries out specific immune responses.
    3. Transporting lipids and lipid-soluble vitamins from the digestive system to the blood.
  • The organs in the lymphatic system are: tonsils, thymus gland, lymph nodes, spleen, lymph nodes, and bone marrow.
  • Tonsils are masses of lymphoid tissue found at the back of the throat.
  • Thymus gland is located behind the breastbone and produces T lymphocytes (a type of lymphocyte).
  • Spleen is a large organ located under the ribcage on the left side of the abdominal cavity.
