The lymphatic system is an open ended network of vessels that connect to
lymph nodes
and to the
main organs
of the lymphatic system.
The
main roles of the
lymphatic
system are: -
Managing the
fluid
levels in the body by returning tissue fluid to the
bloodstream.
Carries out specific
immune
responses.
Transporting
lipids
and lipid-soluble vitamins from the
digestive
system to the blood.
The organs in the lymphatic system are:
tonsils
,
thymus gland
, lymph nodes, spleen, lymph nodes, and bone marrow.
Tonsils are masses of lymphoid tissue found at the back of the throat.
Thymus gland is located behind the breastbone and produces
T lymphocytes
(a type of lymphocyte).
Spleen
is a large organ located under the ribcage on the
left
side of the abdominal cavity.
