Lymph nodes

• They are most numerous in the neck, armpits, groin and alimentary canal
• Surrounded my a capsule of connective tissue → also enters the node to provide framework for a network of fibres inside
• Lymph enters on the convex side, filters through the spaces and exits on the opposite side
• They are used to defend against disease
• Lymph that enters the nodes contains cell debris, foreign particles and micro organisms that have penetrated the body’s defences
• Most bacteria can be consumed/killed in 10-30 mins
• The spleen is the largest lymphatic organ which is found on the left side of the body
