  • Made up of similar units called Osteons or Haversian systems
  • The osteons consist of concentric rings of bone called lamellae
  • At the centre of the rings is a central canal containing blood vessels
  • Between the rings are spaces called lacunae which are occupied by a single bone cell or osteocyte
  • Tiny canals → canaliculi → run between each lamellae and lacunae
