MOTHERBOARD PARTS

Cards (18)

  • Motherboard - the main component of the cpu.
    • backbone of the computer
    • integrates the hardware components in one system.
    • allows all part of the computer to receive power and communicate with one another.
  • Microprocessor Socket - it is a electrical components that attaches to the printed circuit board.
    • also houses the cpu
    • central piece of a motherboard since it holds the processor (the brain of the computer)
  • Random Access Memory/ RAM - usually referred as a computer chip that temporarily stores a dynamic data to enhance the performance of the computer while working.
    • RAM is volatile, it means that it loses all the data on the ram once the power is turned off.
    • When a computer is turned off properly, the data in the ram is returned in the permanent storage like flash drive
  • RAM SLOT/ MEMORY SLOT - it houses the computer's memory module.
  • ATX 20/24 PINS PORT - use to provide power to motherboard and other components.
  • EIDE PORT - stands for ENCHANCED INTEGRTED DRIVE ELECTRONICS
    • it is the improvement of the ide
    • it is an interface used on IBM compatible computers which acts as intermediary between the computer and mass storage device.
  • BIOS CHIPSET - it saves the bios info of the computer.
    • ROM is another key component of the motherboard.
    • BIOS is a collection of small programs permanently stored on it.
    • These programs are executed when the computer turns on.
    • Bios can also be stored in FEPROM, PROM, EPROM
  • SOUTHBRIDGE CHIPSET - it is a computer chip, has a similar function.
    • coordinating the data flows between the processor and peripherals.
  • POWER HEADER PORT/ FRONT PANEL - it is where a;; the elements present in the front of the case is connected.
  • USB HEADER PORT - it is simply a connector tat ensures the USB devices are correctly connected.
    • Generally, it is located at the bottom or right side of the circuit board but depends on the type of the usb header port.
  • CMOS BATTERY SOCKET - holds the CMOS battery in the motherboard.
  • CMOS BATTERY - stands for Complementary Metal Oxide Subconductors.
    • it is a small battery used to power the CMOS memory.
    • The cmos battery hold the important details of the computer such as time, configuration, date, etc.
  • AUDIO HEADER PORT - it is a small and rectangular shape.
    • Used to properly connect the audio header to the front case of he pc.
    • located near the microproccessor slot
    • has 9 slots
    • also labeled as hd audio, AAFP
  • EXPANSION SLOT - it is a slot that allows the user to add adapter to have the computer an additional function.
  • AGP PORT - stands for ACCELERATED GRAPHIC PORT, is a high speed data transfer port.
    • Used by the display adapter card that demand so much in a short period of time.
  • NORTHBIDGE CHIPSET - responsible for coordination data flow between the memory, video, proccessor
  • REAR PANEL/ BACK PANEL - are bridge that connects the outside and inside of your computer.
    • usually located on the left edge of the motherboard and accessible from the outside.
  • ATX 4 PINS PORT - used to power up the CPU.
