  • Procedural Memory - 'knowing how'
    • responsible for knowing how to do things, e.g. memory of motor skills, such as riding a bike
    • procedural memories are non-declarative as they do not involve conscious recall

    • responsible for storing knowledge about the world, e.g. general knowledge facts like London is the capital of England as well as knowledge about the meaning of words such as 'love'

    • the area of the brain responsible for semantic memories is the Temporal Lobe
  • Episodic Memory - events
    • responsible for storing information about events, e.g. our first day at school
    • episodic memories are declarative as they involve conscious recall
    • episodic memories are time stamped
    • area of the brain responsible for episodic memories is the Hippocampus
