LESSON 4

Cards (13)

  • Swimming - is a form of water activity that provides endless pleasure. It is both a recreational and competitive activity. It is the art propelling the body through water
  • Competitive swimming - an activity which involves swimming as its primary mechanism in competing which can either be individual or team based.
  • Recreational swimming - occurs when learning swimming and water safety is the main objective of the activity.
  • Goggles - protect your eyes from chlorine (and anything else that may be in the water)
  • Fins - fit on your feet and add propulsion to your kicks (think of a duck’s webfoot). They are great training for your legs and will help you swim faster.
  • Kick boards - The main purpose is for you to hold on and stay afloat while your legs do all the work
  • Swimming attire - Technology has entered the swimsuit arena as well. Fabrics are designed for minimal resistance through the water, they tend to last a long time, and they resist fading even when used repeatedly in chlorinated pools.
  • Bathing Cap - can serve several purposes. Some pool managers will require individuals with long hair to wear caps to keep hair from getting into the pool, and some people just like to protect their hair from the chlorine in the water
  • The freestyle (Or the crawl) - Is the most commonly used stroke in swimming. It is easily learned and less tiring than the other strokes.
  • Backstroke - As the term implies, the swimmer floats with his back on the water. The flutter kick is also utilized to give the body a thrust, and then, the swimmer flutters the leg with fast stroke movements.
  • Breaststroke - is an efficient swimming technique for covering long distances. With the swimmer floating on his chest, both arms are pushed forward from under the chest to full extension at the surface of the water or just beneath it. Then, sweep back both hands. The leg motion is described as frog kick.
  • Sidestroke - is considered the least tiring of all the swimming strokes. The swimmer can lie on either side of the body while on the water. The frog kick is applied for the leg motion, wherein a leg is moved in front of the other.
  • Butterfly stroke - is utilized for competitive swimming, as this style requires great strength intended for short distances as in a pool. The legs are moved using the dolphin kick. The arms are moved forward over the water in a simultaneous manner
