  • Beck believed that people become depressed due to the world being seen negatively through negative schemas (small pockets of information). These schemas dominate thinking and are triggered when the person is in a similar situation to where they learnt it.
  • Negative schemas develop in childhood when authority figures are highly critical on them. Theses schemas then continue to adulthood.
  • The Triad → Negative schemas create and maintain through the triad.
    1. View of self - worthless.
    2. View of world - obstacles cant be dealt with.
    3. View of future - no improvements.
