  • What is a null hypothesis?

Occur when there is no relationship between the two variables studied
  • What is a non-directional hypothesis?

Predicts that the two variables will have a relationship but doesn't state what the relationship is
  • What is the other name for a non-directional hypothesis?

    A two-tailed hypothesis
  • What is a directional hypothesis?

Predicts and states the relationship between the 2 variables
  • What is an alternative hypothesis?

occurs when the null hypothesis is rejected and the hypothesis is changed to fit the results
  • What is a peer review?

Occurs when the research and data found is sent to another expert to be assed and ensures the integrity and validity of the results
  • What is a paradigm?

A set of principles which define scientific disciplines
  • What is a paradigm shift?

When there is a change of the scientific beliefs
  • What is a lab study?

Research collected in a controlled environment to measure the effects of the IV effects the DV
  • What is a field study?

Research collected outside of a lab and measured in a natural environment
  • What are natural studies?

When the variables are not manipulated and occur naturally
  • What are quasi studies?

When the IV is a specif characteristic of an individual
  • What is content analysis?

Used to convert QL data into measurable data by coding and categorising the data
  • What are non-pps observations?

When the researcher observes but doesn't partake in pps activities
  • What are pps observations?

When the researcher actively partakes in pps activities
  • What is a overt observation?

When pps are aware of the observation
  • What is a covert observation?

Pps don't know that they are being observed
  • What are the 2 types of questionnaires?

    Closed and open questionaries
  • What is a case study?

Research done on an individual or a small group
