Genetic code features

Cards (4)

  • It's a triplet code (codon)

A combination of 3 bases code for one amino acid.
  • The code is universal
Each codon codes for the same amino acid in different living organisms.
  • Degenerate
Different codons can code for the same amino acid (e.g AUG = methyline; ATG = methyline)
  • Non-overlapping

Each nucleotide is always part of only one codon - it doesn't overlap with other codons.
