Chap 2: Sensation and Perception

    Cards (6)

    • Sensation is performed by receptors in the peripheral nervous system.
    • Perception refers to processing the information within in the CNS in order to make sense of the information's significance.
    • Sensory receptors are neurons that respond to stimuli by triggering electrical signals that carry information to the CNS.
    • Physical objects outside the body are referred to as distal stimuli.
    • Distal stimuli often produce photons, sound waves, heat, pressure that directly interact with sensory receptors.
    • Proximal stimuli inform the observer about the presence of a distal stimuli.
