Enzymes

• Carbohydrase turns carbohydrates into simple sugars. Amylase is a form of carbohydrase
• Protease converts proteins into Amino acids
• Lipase converts lipids into glycerol and fatty acids
• Carbohydrase found in the salivary glands, pancreas, and small intestine.
• Protease found in the stomach, pancreas and small intestine.
• Lipase found in the pancreas and small intestine
• Breakdown of food is catalysed by enzymes. (They are biological catalysts)
• Enzymes need their optimum temperature and pH to work its best.
• Gets denatured when temperature or pH is too high
• slow temperature means the enzymes will not get enough kinetic energy so the rate of reaction will be slow
