  • Drug Therapy for Obesity
    • Antidepressants such as bupropion
    • GLP 1 agonist (ends in glutide): helps the patient feel fuller
  • Criteria for bariatric surgery
    • The patient's BMI has to be >40 or BMI >35 with one or more other comorbidity
  • Signs of anastomosis leak include tachycardia, fever, tachypnea, chest and abdominal pain

    • Vitamin B12 deficiency - Give cobalamin IM for life
    • Dumping syndrome: when gastric content empty rapidly
    • Signs include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
    • Treatment include decreasing sugary foods, no fiber, and do not drink water 30-45 minutes before and after meals
