  • Reading
    Knowing how to read and interpret different texts are important skills that are enormously beneficial. We read for many different reasons, e.g. reading to find out information, reading to summarise, reading for comprehension, reading for enjoyment.
  • Types of reading
    Skimming (reading quickly to get the main idea), scanning (reading quickly to find specific information), intensive reading (reading carefully and thoroughly)
  • Writing
    Writing is a very important method of communication. We write to tell stories, to take notes, to describe things, to give information, or for business purposes.
  • Keeping a journal
    Helps you express and keep track of your thoughts and feelings, and develop key writing skills like describing, reflecting, and evaluating
  • Summarising
    Identifying the main points of a written or expressed work and recording them briefly
  • SQ3R method
    1. Survey (look at headings, introduction, conclusion)
    2. Question (ask what each section is about)
    3. Read slowly (concentrate carefully)
    4. Recite or write (explain in your own words)
    5. Review (test your memory)
