  • women were expected to be loyal and respectful daughters , wives and mothers. Angering the men in their lives could result to being kicked out or killed , and was impossible for women to support themselves

He cannot withstand the attack on his masculinity as Shakespeare conveys how sensitive and fragile he is. Shakespeare implies that there are two types of man: one is violent and one is chivalrous
  • "what beast was't then, that made you break this enterprise to me? When you durst do it, then you are man" - Lady macbeth implies that to become a real man you must dare to do whatever it takes to get to what you want. In this case Lady Macbeth states that for Macbeth to show he is a real man he has to do immoral acts to get what he wants ,such as treason
