Respiration experiment

Cards (1)

  • Estimating transpiration rates
    > potometer
    1. cut a shoot underwater to prevent air from entering xylem
    2. Cut at slant to increase surface area
    3. Insert shoot in water so no air can enter
    4. Remove apparatus from the water but keep the end of the capillary the submerged in a breaker of water
    5. Remove the end of the capillary tube from the beaker of eater until one air bubble had formed
    6. Put tube back into water
    7. Record starting position of air bubble
    8. Start a stopwatch and record the distance the bubble moved per bubble per unit and calculate the speed
