  1. Inject radioactive gold isotope to the blood of six participants

  2. Detect gold in the brain using a PET scanner that measures blood flow

  3. Ask participants to recall long term memories, either episodic or semantic
• Episodic information recall


  • More activation in the frontal and temporal lobes
• Semantic recall


  • More activity in the parietal and occipital lobes
