Past Evidence for Climate Change

Cards (6)

  • What was the little ice age?
The little ice age (1300 - 1870) was a period of cooling that occurred after the medieval warm period. It happened in parts of Europe and North America.
  • What impact did the little ice age have?
    1. Price of grain increased.
    2. Sea ice engulfed Iceland and parts of the UK. Frost fairs were held on rivers like the river Thames.
    3. People suffered from intense winters and food shortages.
  • What is some evidence for climate change?
Geological fossil evidence - plants and animals fossil remains which favour certain environmental conditions have been found in contractionary conditions, thus suggesting periods of warmer and colder temperatures.
  • What is some evidence for climate change?
Ocean sediment - Layers of sediment that has built up over time. It has provided scientific evidence for climate change as trapped oxygen isotopes have been found.
  • What is some evidence for climate change?
Ice cores - Made up from different layers that each represents a different historical time. E.g water molecules of the ice cores
  • What is some evidence for climate change?
Historical records - Ancient cave painting, diaries and written observations have provide evidence of climate change through personal accounts from the people through them.
