Transpiration

Cards (10)

  • The palisade mesophyll is where photosynthesis takes place
  • Water is constantly eveporating from the surface of the leaves this is called transpiration
  • Transpiration starts with the evaperation of water from cells inside the leaf
  • The water Vapor then diffuses through the air spaces in the spongy mesophyll and out the leaf through the stomata
  • the water passes through the xylem into the leaf to replace the water that has been lost
  • Water is drawn into the root hair cells and up the xylem vessels to the leaf
  • The rate of transpiration is great at higher temperatures
  • Transpiration is faster in dry conditions when the air is not humid
  • The rate of transpiration increases in windy conditions because wind removes water vaopur allowing more water to evaporate
  • The rate of transpiration increases when light intensity increases
