MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY WIRES, JOINTS AND SPLICES

Cards (11)

  • what are the types of wires?
    1. stranded wire
    2. solid wire
    3. braid wire
    4. coaxial wire
    5. twin lead cable
  • Stranded wire – is made up of comprised multiple small size of metal wire bunch together to reach the necessary gauge.
  • Solid wire – is made up of single metal wire
  • Braid wire – it can be flat or round and composed of multiple strands of wire braid as one which is used in a very high voltage system.
  • Coaxial wire – it has inner conductor surrounded by insulating layer.
  • Twin lead cable – a conductor separated with flat insulation used to pick up signal of radio and TV.
  • Western Union splices – they are used to keep service wire too much pulling or pressure.
  • Rat-tail joint – it is used in wires that are seldom pulled.
  • Underwriter’s knot – used on wiring lamp into receptacle to avoid the wire from pulling out from screw terminals.
  • T-joint or Top splice – used for extending o branched circuit form the main source.
  • Cross joint – with the same procedure as in tap joint but here you will use two main and done side by side of the wire where you will do the joint.
