  people operate on 2 levels:

  1 . autonomous individuals behaving voluntarily & aware of consequences of actions

  2 . agentic level seeing themselves as agents of others

  not responsible for actions
• consequences of moving to agentic level


  -individuals attribute responsibility of their actions to person in authority

  -people mindlessly accept orders of person they see as responsible
• agentic state strengths 


  -in Milgram's study many Ps denied personal responsibility as they did what experimenter said

  -Milgram suggests from early age we train children to be obedient and factors bind together to operate people to stay in state
