Cardiovascular (2)

Cards (7)

  • Veins
    • Return blood to the heart
    • Don't have significant amounts of smooth muscle
    • Have valves
  • Heart
A pump that contracts and expels blood ("Systole" - increased pressure) and relaxes and fills with blood ("Diastole" - decreased pressure)
  • Cardiac Output
The volume of blood ejected by one ventricle of the heart in one minute
  • Stroke Volume

The volume of blood ejected from the ventricle in one contraction (beat)
  • Systolic blood pressure

The maximum arterial blood pressure that occurs during ejection of blood from the heart into the arteries
  • Diastolic blood pressure

The minimum arterial pressure that occurs during filling
  • Cardiac output

Can be altered by changing the force of contraction, volume of blood ejected, and frequency (beats per minute)
