Cards (4)

  • Outline two implications for the Irish Government of having such a large government current surplus.
    1. There will be pressure to spend more on different areas such as healthcare.
    2. Trade unions might put pressure on government to increase public sector pay,
    e.g. teachers and nurses.
    3. The government can pay money off the national debt
  • Capital - building a hospital
  • Current expenditure - doctor wages
  • If the government was to implement a plan for transport who would bear the cost and who would it benefit ?
    • Employees - A possible increase in income taxes to fund this ambitious plan could impact employees' disposable income and standard of living.
    • Communities would benefit from it - transport links between rural and urban areas would benefit communities as people in rural areas can access amenities in urban areas
