Enzymes

Cards (4)

  • Enzyme-substrate complex is formed when the substrate binds to an active site on the enzyme.
  • Competitive inhibitors are molecules that compete for the active site of an enzyme and prevent the intended molecule by binding by blocking.
    effects are not permanent
  • Non-competitive inhibitors bind onto the allosteric sites of enzymes and alter their structure hence changing the shape of the active site to no longer be complimentary to the intended substrate.
this tends to be permanent and more significant
  • What is end-product inhibition?

Where the end product produced from a process inhibits an earlier process which prevents more of itself being formed until there's not enough of the product to inhibit.
