    • Muscle Spasms (Muscle Cramps)
    • sudden, painful, involuntary muscle contractions
    • most commonly occurs in the skeletal muscles
    • often caused by muscle fatigue, dehydration, low electrolyte levels, or poor circulation 
    • gentle pressure and stretching can be used to relieve the spasm
    • smooth muscles can go into spasm
    • examples include the pain associated with menstrual cramps, diarrhea, gallbladder pain, and passing a kidney stone
    • Muscular Dystrophy 
    • is a group of diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. 
    • usually appears in early childhood, most types result in total disability and early death 
    • each form of muscular dystrophy is caused by a genetic mutation particular to that type of the disease. 
    • many of these mutations are inherited, but some occur spontaneously in the mother's egg or the developing embryo
    • There is no cure for muscular dystrophy. Medications and physical therapies are used to slow the disease and keep the patient mobile for the longest possible time.
    • Fibromyalgia
    • chronic and widespread pain in the muscles and soft tissue 
    • symptoms can also include fatigue, sleep problems, cognitive problems (such as trouble focusing or remembering), headaches and migraines, increased sensitivity, and irritable bowl syndrome
    • the chronic pain can also cause patients to experience depression and anxiety 
    • doctors are unclear about what causes fibromyalgia
    • treatments include both medication and self-care
    • the emphasis is on minimizing symptoms and improving general health
