The large intestine

• The main function of the large intestine is the absorption of water and some vitamins and minerals into the blood
• It does not contain villi or enzymes, only mucous is secreted here
• The last part of the large intestine is called the rectum
• Undigested food waste is pushed out of the rectum through the anus by peristalsis
