Salvation

• "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." (Luke 3:17)
• Roman Catholics + Orthodox:

  believe they can receive salvation offered by Jesus' death by

  -receiving sacraments of baptism and confirmation

  -receiving the sacrament of reconciliation and Eucharist

  -leading a Christian life
• Protestants (especially Evangelicals):

  -believe salvation comes through a personal acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Saviour
• Salvation is important as:

  -personal sins prevent having a good relationship with God; likely to be sent to Hell or Purgatory

  -is the only way Christians can have an eternal life with God

  -Salvation was the main purpose of life, death and resurrection of Jesus
