  • Verbal Communication- a type of communication where we use of language to get our message and information across to the other person
  • Communication is the sending and receiving of information and can be one-on-one or between groups of people, and can be face-to-face or through communication devices
  • Non-Verbal Communication- transfer of information from one person to another by the use of body language
  • Interpersonal communication- the process of exchange of information, ideas and feelings between two or more people through verbal or non-verbal methods.
  • Effective interpersonal communication requires all parties to assume both roles, sending and receiving the message at the appropriate time.
  • Fiction is any creative work, chiefly any narrative work, portraying individuals, events, or places that are imaginary or in ways that are imaginary.
  • Non-fiction - conveys information about the real world, not imagination.
  • Consider the source- click away from the story and investigate the site, its mission, and contact information.
  • Read beyond- headlines can be outrageous in effort to get clicks.

  • Interval conflict - when a character struggles with their own beliefs.
  • External conflict is a type of literary conflict in which the protagonist has to struggle against other characters (called antagonists), nature, or society.
  • Visual imagery engages the sense of sight. It is the ability to see something in your mind's eye.
  • Gustatory imagery engages the sense of taste. this is what you can taste and includes flavors.
  • Tactile imagery engages the sense of touch. This is what you cal feel and includes textures.
  • auditory imagery engages the sense of hearing. the listener is able to visualize the sounds in their mind
  • olfactory imagery engages the sense of smell. Scent is one of the most direct triggers or memory and emotion, but it can be difficult to write about it
  • Kinesthetic imagery engages the feeling of movement. This deals with more than just the visual aspect of the movement.
  • Everyone has an agenda- everyone has their own motives and reasons for doing things
  • A credible source is one that is written by someone who is an expert in their discipline and is free of errors and bias.
  • Misinformation is the practice of false or inaccurate information that is communicated regardless of an intention to deceive (taken from lecture).
  • Do not be fooled, always verify the accuracy of your I format. Regardless of the situation, always make sure that the information being provided is accurate.
  • Know the difference between fact and opinion. Never assume. It is crucial to distinguish between facts and opinions.
  • Simile - two things are being compared by using the words like, as, so, etc. To introduce
  • Metaphor- a comaprison between two things that are not the same in reality. this is informal but the words ‘like’ ‘as’ ‘so’ are avoided.
  • Personification- giving human qualities to non-human things or objects.
  • Apostrophe- a figure of speech in which a speaker addresses someone or something that is not present.
  • Oxymoron- when two words are used together in a sentence but seem to be in contrast with each other.
  • Hyperbole- an exaggerated statement that is not meant to be taken literally.
  • Alliteration: the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words
  • Onomatopoeia- the word is used to describe a sound.
  • Anaphora- the figure of speech when a word or phrase is repeated at the beginning of successive clauses
  • Euphemism- when replacing an offensive or harsh terms with soft words
  • Irony- A figure of speech in which the opposite of what is said is true.
