Executive controls parliament

• government enjoys the support of the majority of MPS in the house of commons. it can expect to win virtually every critical vote- Boris 80 seat majority allowed his government introduce a post lockdown system despite misgivings of parliament
• government controls legislative processes and can block most amendments from the floors of commons and the lords
• HOL can delay but not veto legislation- Parliament act 1949 limits the lords power to delay only for 1 year- example- parliamentary act 1949 limits the lord power to delay legislation
• Salisbury convention means that lords cant block legislation in which the government has a electoral mandate - any specific proposal contained in the winnings party manifesto shouldn't be blocked by HOL
