  • some people dont want to live - drawing out inevitable death - result is showing lack of compassion as society, not giving what they want - humanists disagree - think that it embraces life instead of focusing on death - results in more optimistic society that doesnt seek death
  • not all pain is removed so its not effective - emotional pain - addisted dying would be better as no pain - argued that eolc removes all pain possible, not just medication but spiritual and holistic care - humanists disagree as eolc done with good intentions and supports patient - ad should be available so can choose - results in patient having full autonomy when care begins and ends - i agree as it makes comfortable, emotional pain is a part of life and something we mut accept
  • dignity - unable to do tasks removes individuality and dignity - utilitarians disagree - deterioration is a part of life not the fault of eolc - eolc is best for society as it cares for society - means people dont suffer like they would without it - results in greatest good as not only are patients more comfortable but society has peace of mind as they know theyre in good hands if it happens to them - i agree as it ensures all of society is happy and does eveything in its power to make people comfortable
  • intolerable suffering - even with pain relief someone with an illness says their pain in intolerable - eolc is wrong as poeple must live with their pain until natural pain - not compassionate - humans agree and think we should have a choice to decide whether we can tolerate the pain or not - result is ad is good as people have a choice is they can wait or not, gives people control and choice - i think strong point as if a person is in so much pain they want to die, its the most compassionate thing to let them - inspired by compassion
  • “We believe that any adult of sound mind who is intolerably suffering from an incurable, physical condition and has a clear and settled wish to die should have the option of an assisted death.”
