palisade mesophyll tissue- this is where photosynthesis happens
spongy mesophyll tissue- in leaf, contains lots of air spaces to allow gases to diffuse in and out
meristem tissue- this is found at the growing tips of shoots and roots and is able to differentiate into lots of different types of cells, allowing the plant to grow
leaves contain epidermal, mesophyll, and palisade tissues
epidermal tissue are covered with a waxy cuticle which helps to reduce water loss by evaporation
The upper epidermis is transparent so that light can pass through it to the palace side layer, this means that they are near the top of the leaf so they can get the most light
lie xylem and phloem form network of vascular bundles which deliver water and other nutrients to the entire leaf and take away the glucose produced by photosynthesis they also help support the structure the tissues
phloem tubes transport food this is called translocation (transport goes in both directions)
xylem tubes take water up
xylem tubes are made of dead cells
the palisade mesophyll contains chloroplasts where photosynthesis takes place
spongy mesophyll has lots of air spaces between its cells these allow gases to diffuse into and out of the leaf easily
transpiration is the loss of water from a plant
transpiration is caused by the evaporation and diffusion of water from the surface of the leaf
transpiration is effected by light intensity, temperature, humidity, and air flow
