The aim was to see the outcomes of being on MPA compared to notbeingonthetreatment.
It was a retrospectivestudy as it looked at recidivismrates of offenders who had already been released.
275 offenders were looked at, of which 134 were seen as suitable for the MPA. Of the 134, 79 recieved the treatment but 55 didn't. All of the offenders were men and it was done in Oregon USA.
Some of the offenders that were seen as suitable didnot receive the treatment as the community they went back to didn't have the resources to provide it or the treating therapist/parole officer deemed it unnecessary.
0% of the offenders who received the MPA treatment committed a new sexual offence whereas 58.8% of the offenders with no treatment did.
Questionnaires were given to the parole officers and asked questions about any newoffences or prison sentences and also asked if the offender was "doing well".
200-400mg of MPA was injected every 2 weeks.
70% of homosexual paedophiles were deemed suitable for MPA whereas only 46% of heterosexual paedophiles were.
